A career in the agri-food sector isn’t just working on a farm...

There is an incredible range of jobs available in the agri-food and retail sectors, from product technologists and customer insight managers to development chefs and print and packaging designers.

But it seems many people, particularly young people, aren’t aware of these potential career paths.

In November I took part in an ‘Inspiring Women’ event at Sainsbury’s Holborn Store Support Centre, attended by 100 young women aged 13-15 from three local schools and 100 women from the retail and food sector.

As part of this event we showed our From Cow to Customer’ film, which shows the journey of a Sainsbury’s Cheesecake, from the point the cow is milked to when the customer cuts into their dessert. At the same time, the film highlights the variety of roles women play in the retail and the food sector.

As part of the Agri-Tech Strategy we are exploring the potential skills we will need in the future across the agricultural sector, and this video is an excellent insight into the range of opportunities.

See for yourself the huge breadth of roles available to men and women in this video or accompanying brochure, and the fascinating journey taken to deliver a delicious dessert!
